High flying New Quay established a clear lead at the top of the First Division thanks to an emphatic win over Cardigan.
The visitors put an early stamp on the proceedings and raced into a three goal lead through Lee Perkins, Mark Mousley and Jamie Thompson. Cardigan however, kept themselves in contention at the interval pulling a couple back through Simon Jones and Peter Edwards. New Quay though had the last laugh and clinched the victory with goals from Chris Atkinson and Jamie Thompson, with his second, in the final ten minutes. In an exciting game on Square Field Maesglas slumped to only their second defeat of the season against an Aberaeron side that fully deserved its injury time win. Both teams started at a cracking pace and after Reuben Wells had twice gone close for the visitors Gareth Lewis having beaten the offside trap ran on to give the home side the lead. To their credit Maesglas came back strongly and drew level when Dominic Williams converted from the penalty spot after Dan Cole had been pulled down by home keeper Sam Forbes. Aberaeron again took the lead ten minutes into the second half when Jason Jones netted from a Gareth Lewis corner. Shortly after victory seemed to be theirs as the visitors were reduced to ten men when Josh Partiss was sent off following a foul on Simon Bray. To their credit however, Maesglas never gave up the fight and were rewarded in the final minute of normal time when Ricky Maskell was on hand to head home the equaliser. Seemingly both sides had settled for a point but deep into injury time there was another twist to the tail when the Lewis and Jones combination struck again to give Aberaeron the points. In another keen tussle St Dogmaels just had the edge over Crannog. After a Leigh Davies goal for the home side had been cancelled out by a Johnny James equaliser in the second half a draw seemed to be on the cards until the final minute when from a Steve Blackford cross to the far post Chris Thomas was on hand to settle the issue. There was an excellent win for Llanybydder against Ffostrasol thanks to goals from Gareth Edwards, Louis Evans and Luke Lovell. In the other First Division fixture Dewi Stars had a comfortable win against Llandysul. Man of the match Jamie Evans led the way with a hat-trick and there was one apiece for Andrew Jones, Arwel Jones and Owain Pugh. |
